WORSHIP THOUGHTS

24/06/06 - World Cup in full swing

With the World Cup in full swing and fans from all over the world travelling to see their favourite teams, emotions run high. Crowds swell the stadiums and even more supporters congregate in city centres all over Germany to cheer and party. For many of these supporters it has cost them so much to travel and live. Yet they gladly spend small fortunes to see their team. Win or lose they seem to enjoy the experience, and celebrate with all their might.

On Sunday mornings all over the world people congregate to worship a different god. Not the god of football, but the True God. Large crowds of people and small congregations all gather to bring him honour. Yet we have a lot to learn from the football supporters who sing and dance at will. Yet so many of our churches wouldn’t know a celebration if they saw one! The Bible talks a lot about different aspects of praise – clapping, dancing, singing, shouting, kneeling, bowing, etc.

What a delight it would be to see our congregations free to express themselves. Churches all over the world would come alive and cities would be transformed as Christians live victorious lives. Spilling out praise on Sundays, and all through the week.

In John 4 we read of Jesus meeting the woman at the well. He says that where you are when you worship does not matter. It is how you live your life before God that matters. I pray that each of us break free into new levels of liberty in our personal lives and in the lives of the church.

Go For It!

David
