WORSHIP THOUGHTS

07/15/06 - The heart of worship

We have to understand that like everything else in life there are heart issues and peripheral issues. Firstly, I want us to look at the heart issues and then the peripheral ones will take care of themselves.

If you had the opportunity to look down a telescope or a microscope you would soon come to the conclusion that before you can see anything you have to focus the lens on the subject that you want to study. If you take a picture with a camera of your family and you have them close to you the background will not be a focused as the family, because that is the subject of the photograph. That does not mean that the background is not there or it is always out of focus. It is just that the focus is on something else. This is what I want to do as we look at the Heart of Worship.

I want us to begin with the very first mention of worship in the Bible. This is found in Genesis 22 v 5. We have to understand to about the Law of First Mention. This is the principle that requires on to go to the portion of Scripture where a doctrine is mentioned for the first time and to study it in order to gain understanding. It also carries significance. We will see that from this passage of Scripture in Gen 22.

In our world worship means something. A few songs strung together; a period of time; what happens before the preacher preaches; what the worship team do; what the congregation join in with! Now let us examine if this is what God is actually meaning when we read these verses. It says in verse 5 that Abraham told his servants to wait with the donkey while he and his son went to worship. Then they would come back. That is what it says, doesn’t it? Now to put that into context let us read the four previous verses.
