WORSHIP THOUGHTS
04/08/06 - Be an Encourager
Last week we looked at being the “dream member of the dream team,” and how each one of us must play their part to see the whole team succeed. Well, this week I would like to carry on with the same thoughts and encourage every one of you to be an encourager. It is surely true in all of our lives that if we are starved of encouragement we will fail to live up to our full potential.
My own piano teacher, many years ago I hasten to add, use to encourage me by rapping me over the knuckles with a ruler if I dared to say, “I can’t play it,” referring to my new piano piece that she was giving me. However, as I found out, with a lot of practice and determination I discovered that I could actually play it. She encouraged me by the threat of the ruler.
Now, of course, I am not suggesting that you use that particular tactic to encourage your singers or musicians. You need to use a different, but still effective method. You have to believe in them, and help them to believe in themselves, as well as helping them realize that God wants them to do well too.
When a jockey uses his whip he is encouraging the horse to go faster. When a bowler spins a ball towards the batsman he is encouraging the ball to turn in a certain direction. When we speak words of encouragement it will help those that we work with to come to the realization that with a little effort that are able to accomplish more and more each week.
God wants us to build up ourselves, 1 Thess. 5v11: So encourage one another and build each other up, just as you are already doing.
