WORSHIP THOUGHTS

11/19/06 - 1 Chronicles 25

This week I want to look at the qualities and characters of the three men mentioned here. Asaph, Heman and Jeduthun. These men pop from time to time and it is important for us to discover what kind of men David, the king/worshipper etc. surrounded himself with.

Asaph: According to Strong’s concordance the name Asaph comes from the root word meaning, a collector, to gather for purpose, to assemble, put all together.

Heman: Means faithful, to build up or support, to be permanent, steadfast, trustworthy.

Jeduthun: Means to hold out the hand, to revere, to worship, make confession, give thanks.

As we look at the meaning of these names they signified men of quality and substance. Not men who were here today and gone tomorrow. Such qualities are needed today in worship teams all over the world. People who can gather, people who are faithful and people who hold out their hand to give thanks.

So often we see the opposite happening. People who cannot gather others, just wanting a crowd to play to! Then next week they are somewhere else. They are preoccupied with performance and self esteem. However, we see by looking at Jeduthun that here was a man who held out his hands to give to others. Not a self promoter, but a promoter of others. My prayer is that as you read this God will grip your heart with a passion for other people, other worshippers, other youth, just others.

What God has given us is never for us, it is always for other people. Go on, give away some of what you have to others. Bless them and never seek anything back. Just be a giver. We read in Philippians 2 of how Jesus, who was worthy of receiving

Honour, gave up his life for others. May he be a shining example to us all.
