WORSHIP THOUGHTS

11/12/06 - 1 Chronicles 25

Last time we looked at the first few words form 1 Chronicles 25 that talked about: David, together with the commanders of the army. Working in partnership, working together, realizing that the days of the “lone ranger” are over. Bravery is a key element for all involved in worship teams, as they are normally led by people who are “movers and shakers”

This week, I want us to look at the phrase; “set apart.” “Some of the sons of Asaph, Heman and Jeduthun were set apart.” They were earmarked as those who would serve in the Tabernacle of David. Having particular responsibility as musicians and singers. Being those who carried responsibility to stand before the Lord, and minister to him, each one was set apart to the task. Set apart to be available, to serve, to function, to play/sing, to accompany to catch the wind of what God was saying or doing, and interpret it using the skills God had given them. This puts a totally different light on the musicians and singers in our churches today.

Deuteronomy 10:8

At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to minister and to pronounce blessings in his name, as they still do today.

My encouragement to you is that you offer yourselves as servants to those who lead the worship team. Do not seek to usurp their leading, but in your serving enhance what they are seeking to do. Set yourself apart with this in mind and protect the team and the leaders by your prayers and encouragement. Be a person who does not seek personal position or affirmation, but seeks to affirm others in what they are doing. In Philippians 2 we read that we are not to seek for personal ambition, but rather to seek to promote others and see them as better than yourself.
