WORSHIP THOUGHTS
09/24/2006 - 1 Chronicles 25
I want over the next few weeks to revisit some things from 1 Chronicles 25. This is a key chapter for us as worshippers; singers, musicians as we endeavour to reach into further into where God wants to take us. I want us to do a systematic look at this chapter and glean as much as we can. Allowing God all the time to mould our thinking and shape our vision. I have said many times that worship teams should consider very carefully what God is saying in this chapter and, as we walk through it together let’s believe for revelation to come our way.
1 Chronicles 25 v 1
David, together with the commanders of the army… I want to start right here in the first few words of the chapter, and consider what we can learn from this. As we read on we will see the word, “supervision” mentioned numerous times. I believe that the chapter begins with a hint of what is to come later. A forerunner, as it were. David, was the King, he was a shepherd, a leader, a harpist, a warrior, and a worshipper. He was not alone in this either, because we read that, he was together with the commanders of the army.
This all seems rather strange to think that army men should choose and enlist those who would serve as worshippers. But God’s ways are higher than our and we have to come into a fuller understanding of why they are here in this chapter. David had every right to be involved in the choosing, but why the army guys??? Surely they would be more useful on the front line of the battle?
Well, firstly, David realized that working alongside others was better than doing things himself. I believe that we all need to realize that the days of the “lone ranger” are over. He wants us paired, knitted with people that share the same passion, dream, heart, focus, etc. Isolation is not a Kingdom concept. Jesus sent his disciples out in two’s. The Bible says that, “Two are better than one!” (Ecc. 4 v 9). Because they have a good return for their work! It is far better to work alongside others instead of being a “loner,” trying to achieve all by yourself.
Furthermore, David had the army guys, because they understood bravery. Where God is leading us in these days we need brave people. Those will not shrink back from the challenge of stepping out from the visible into the invisible realms. In 2 Chronicles 20 the singers had to be brave as they were sent out to sing ahead of the army!!! Singers on the frontline, WOW!
Take time to consider your own practices for a moment. Do you work alone, or closely with others? Do you have brave people functioning alongside you? And thirdly, do you allow the leaders to shape your thinking when it comes to choosing those who will involve in the team!!!
