WORSHIP

An article about the true heart of worship. Its focus and its powerful, impactive purpose for us as believers.

Jesus stands as the pivotal point in the history of creation. He was always in God's mind and heart, inseparable, you might say. He sits enthroned as King of the universe; and his people, the church, have the tremendous privilege to honour him with every aspect of their lives. This is what I believeWorship worship is. Not a song, not a time period in a corporate meeting, not a warm up for the preacher, but a lifestyle of undivided devotion to Christ.

“Hold on a minute,” I hear you say! “What about all the songs that we as a worship team have been practising over the past number of years? We have even learnt to play them without music! Are you saying that they are not worship?”

I guess that you are catching on quickly. Songs are not worship. They are tools for us to use as we minister to Jesus. You see worship in the Bible is never talked of as a pre-curser to a preacher, or a song service! It is referred to as sacrifice. (Gen 22v5) The bottom line is that worship is “Extravagant love and extreme devotion.”*

No more of this two fast songs and then we enter in to a deep time of worship, singing three slow songs! God deserves something much better than that. John 4v23-4 says that, “God is looking for worshippers. Those who worship him in spirit and in truth.”
